First Generation


1. Hardy HOOKS1,2 was born in 1732 in Bertie County, North Carolina.3 He owned 350 acres on the South side of Great Swamp, near Burnt Swamp in Dobbs County (now Wayne Co.) deeded on 7 April 1778.4 This property was located just northwest of what is now Fremont. [NEED TO DEFINE SENTENCE:TaxList]4 He appeared in the census in 1800 in Wayne County, North Carolina.4,5 The household is listed as having 7 "free white males," 5 "free white females," and 15 slaves. (1800 Census, Wayne Co., NC, handwritten page #236) Hardy died in 1801 at the age of 69 in Wayne County, North Carolina.3 "Hardy Hooks, believed to be the first of the Hooks family to settle in Wayne County, lived in what is now the northwestern corner of the county. His will, filed in 1801, lists his wife and fourteen children as heirs." (source: "Hardy Hooks Family" in Heritage of Wayne County, North Carolina, p.290)

Hardy HOOKS and Drusilla (Drucilla?) BARDIN were married in 1766 in Dobbs County, North Carolina.3,6 Drusilla (Drucilla?) BARDIN3, daughter of Jacob BARDIN and Sarah FUTREL, was born in 1734.7 She died in 1814 at the age of 80 in Wayne County, North Carolina.7
